Well, I guess you could say we have a lot of Christmas ball projects for you this year... and it's not over! Today, I bring you two models, a little on the shabby side, that will require some old, some new and some technique, of course ;)
Materials (for both balls)
- Clear plastic 2-part balls
- Lace and satin ribbon (½˝, 3/8˝)
- Mini pearl ribbon (available in rolls)
- Peel Off’s
- Old Jewelry
- White and ivory fabric or paper flowers
- White or light tissue paper
- Glimmer Mist (commercial or home-made)
- Glossy Accents
- Double-sided tape
Ball #1:
Instructions:
Shiny tissue paper :
- Lay down a large sheet of tissue paper on the protected work surface.
- Spray generously with Glimmer Mists – I used Indian Corn, Caramel Apple and Olive Vine. Even very wet, that should dry fairly quickly.
- Let dry.
Assembling the ball :
- Scrunch the dry tissue paper to make a loose ball and insert it in one half of the plastic ball. Place the secon half and close well – you won’t need to glue, those are made to click together.
- On the « joint » of the ball, adhere a Peel Off’s border – I chose copper.
- ON either side of the Peel Off’s border, adhere lace ribbon – about 1/2˝-wide – using double-sided adhesive. It will be easier to do with a glue runner or similar.
- Insert a narrow satin ribbon on the top of the ball, knotting to allow the ball to be suspended.
- Finish with a bow made of wide lace ribbon and voilà!
Ball #2:
- Insert wide lace in one half of a clear plastic ball. Close with other half – no need to glue, those are made to click together.
- With double-sided adhesive (runner works best – and be careful to use the same width as your satin riboon) « draw » dividing lines on your ball, making sure to hide the « joint » (see fig. 1 below). Adhere satin ribbon.
- At the center of each ribbon, add a fine Peel Off’s border, pressing well with finger tips to ensure good adherence.
- At the bottom of the ball, adhere a white or ivory flower to hide the spot where the ribbons cross. (fig. 2)
- At the center of that flower, use Glossy Accents to glue an old earring – mine was a clip from which I cut off the moving part. Let dry overnight to ensure that it is well adhered.
- To camouflage the space between the ball and the earring, I added a tiny pearl ribbon, which I also adhered with Glossy Accents and set aside to dry.
- Insert a narrow ribbon at the top of the ball and knot to ensure it can be hung.
- Fig 3. : To hide the ribbon hole on top of the ball, I used another white flower. I cut the flower center to adhere it at the base of the ribbon hole and added some flower all around it. I adhered the flowers with Stix 2 Craft Dots. Voilà!
